Highland Park Reconstruction

About the Project

This year, the City of Richmond Heights will be completely renovating Highland Park, located at 1250 Highland Terrace.  The original playground was installed in 1998 and, since then, the City has been saving for its replacement. With those funds, the City will match a grant from the St. Louis County Municipal Park Grant Commission to renovate the entire park.

The current playground is being donated to Kids Around the World, a not-for-profit corporation that performs mission work in over 60 countries around the globe. With the help of volunteers, the playground will be dismantled, refurbished, shipped overseas, and reassembled in communities impacted by war, poverty, disease, or natural disasters.

Proposed improvements to the park include replacing the playground, picnic tables, trash cans, drinking fountain and irrigation system and adding a spray feature, outdoor fitness equipment, reading area, new sidewalks, and landscaping.  Residents were invited to two public meetings to help the design team plan the renovations.  The design team also reached out to MRH Early Childhood Center students for their “expert opinion” of the proposed design ideas.

The project construction is expected to begin in April 2018 and will continue through the end of the year.   The park will be closed during this time.  For more information about the project, contact Tim Brunsman, Park Superintendent, Project Manager, City Forester, at tbrunsman@richmondheights.org.
